Abstract

Ferroptosis is a recently described type of regulated cell death characterized by the accumulation of iron-dependent lipid peroxides, leading to irreversible cellular damage. Unlike apoptosis or other forms of necrosis, ferroptosis is driven by an imbalance in iron metabolism and glutathione, the main cellular antioxidant. This pathway has garnered increasing interest in biomedical research due to its involvement in various diseases, including those affecting the liver.
