Abstract

Hemangioma is the most common benign liver tumor. Its prevalence is high, and it is generally detected incidentally during imaging of other nearby structures. In most cases, hepatic hemangioma tends to grow, and one of the main determinants of growth is the age at diagnosis. It rarely causes symptoms, and when they do appear, the most common is abdominal pain. Complications include bleeding from the tumor, compression of adjacent structures, and consumption coagulation. When the aforementioned conditions appear, management must be carried out, and surgical treatment, either resection or lobectomy, is frequently considered. Liver transplant is rarely used in hepatic hemangioma, but sometimes it is an alternative. We present the case of a 63-year-old patient with a history of giant hepatic hemangioma, surgical resection of the same, and subsequent rapid growth until reaching dimensions greater than 20 centimeters, associated with compressive symptoms and evidence of consumptive coagulopathy.
