Hepatopulmonary syndrome and portopulmonary hypertension: Current concepts

Hepatopulmonary syndrome and portopulmonary hypertension are complications of advanced liver cirrhosis. They have different pathophysiological mechanisms, which may be closely related. Both entities greatly impact the quality of life, survival, and prognosis of those who suffer from them. This article aims to be a succinct and illustrative narrative review of the most notable aspects of both clinical entities in the spectrum of portal hypertension and pulmonary hypertension described in cirrhotic patients.
